Describe An Important River Or Lake In Your Country


Describe an important river or lake in your country.

How do you know about this?
How long is it?
And explain why is it important?

  1. Well, India is a country rich in its flora and fauna and there are number of rivers and tributaries in my country.
  2. But here I would like to talk about a very popular river of my country ‘The River Ganga’. The river is acknowledged as a ‘holy river’ by millions of people across the world.
  3. I have come to know about this river initially from our school text books.
  4. The river Ganga is 2,525 kilometres long.
  5. There are various reasons The river Ganga plays a significant role in my country.
  6. First of all, the Ganges is one of the most sacred rivers to Hindus as it is considered that by taking holy dip in this river, people can get rid of birth cycle.
  7. Furthermore, Hindus also bathe in its waters for paying homage to their ancestors and to their gods. 
  8. In addition, on the journey back home from the Ganges, they carry small quantities of river water with them for use in rituals.
  9. Apart from that, it is also worshiped as goddess Ganga in hinduism.
  10. Every year, the river attracts millions of visitors from different parts of the world who visit cities like Kashi, Allahbad, Patna, Kolkata, Haridwar etc. to witness the beauty of this river.
  11. Every evening many people gather on the bank of river Ganga in Haridwar to perform the Aarti which is a form of worshiping and it is really spell bounding. 
  12. Moreover, at night, the reflection of Aarti in the water of river Ganga is treat to watch as it creates a dazzling effect.
  13. All in all, I can say the name of river Ganga resides in the heart of every Indian and the river is one of the most important rivers of my nation.
